CCAL Workshop: Zen Table: Handbuilt Sushiware
Create a coordinated collection of beautiful, functional sushiware using approachable slab-building techniques, no pottery wheel required. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28: CREATE During the main workshop, participants will transform slabs of clay into two or three rectangular sushi and serving trays, along with a coordinating dipping-sauce dish. You'll learn how to roll and compress clay, refine edges, add raised feet, incorporate texture, and carefully shape each piece to reduce warping during firing. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12: GLAZE After the pieces have been bisque-fired, participants will return for a follow-up glazing session. Choose from a curated palette of food-safe glazes and learn simple techniques that highlight the form, texture, and handmade character of your collection. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19: DELIVERY Following the final glaze firing, each completed sushiware collection will be carefully packaged and delivered—just in time for holiday entertaining or gift-giving. Each participant creates: • Two to three rectangular sushi or serving trays • One coordinating dipping-sauce dish No previous ceramics experience is necessary. Clay, food-safe glazes, tools, two kiln firings, and delivery of the completed work are included. Appropriate for adults. This program will be hosted in English. Space is limited; registration is required. Visit our online calendar to sign up today.
